Firecry: America's Nightmare

(Lantana Review Northwest Vista College: Published 2013)
Let me take you back to the year it all began.
It was the start of the second pitiable millennium
and the nation’s only chore to share was failed once again.
Downturn is the episode occurring now.
This era brought “the end” closer to this town
We’re out for recess in the time of tragedy
like a Hollywood movie no one has ever seen.
Pass around some credit, lend another bloody bill,
Cash out the senate, pay it back and seal the deal.
Do your taxes pay the doles and benefits?
Or is it just simply an extravagance?
We are America but I am the firecry.
Dear redeemer,
Please rescue the unfortunate.
We are too ashamed to admit that our savior is now broke again.
Subprime-lending, all the fault is Mac and Mae’s.
High risk spending by the hand that’s here today!
Bail outs and budgets, all I want is pride inside.
We forgot about nature. There’s parking lots on riversides!
Pass the occupation all around again,
keep the world thinking that we just hid the wealth within.
The price of black is soaring even under sand,
“trust” is most likely (going) to vanish like the medicine.
Sell the time and pay to sin
because the cost of freedom is no longer in the clearance bin.
Here we live this American nightmare:
the economy is dying and it never ends.
I beg to live because the firecry is what I am.
